Why You Should Move to the Cloud

There are many reasons to switch to cloud verses on prem systems.

  • Reduced CAPEX (Capital Expenditure). Cloud computing can help you save money on IT costs in a number of ways. For example, you can avoid the upfront costs of purchasing and maintaining your own hardware and software. Average lifecycle on software can be between 6-8 years and hardware is 3-5 years. With cloud, you will always have the latest and greatest.  You can also scale your resources up or down as needed, which can help you avoid overpaying for unused capacity.
  • Flexibility and scalability. Cloud computing is highly scalable, so you can easily add or remove resources as needed. This can be a major advantage for businesses that experience seasonal fluctuations in demand. For example, an online retailer might need to add more servers during the holiday season to handle increased traffic. With cloud, the benefit is the availability to temporarily scale up or down as needed to pay for what you need as opposed to having an on premise system crash because of overcapacity or paying alot of money for a high capacity system only to discover the extra capacity is not needed.
  • Improved security. Cloud providers offer a wide range of security features to help protect your data. These features can include data encryption, access controls, and intrusion detection. Various user access can be controlled and tracked anywhere from an IAM (Identity Access Manager).  Most businesses use some for of MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) such as a text code, and app, or a digital secure ID key.
  • Increased agility. Cloud computing can help you become more agile by making it easier to deploy new applications and services. This can give you a competitive advantage by allowing you to quickly respond to changes in the market.
  • Enhanced collaboration. Cloud-based collaboration tools can help you improve communication and productivity with your team members. These tools can make it easy to share files, edit documents, and hold videoconferences.
  • Reduced risk. Cloud providers offer a number of features that can help you reduce your risk of data loss or downtime. These features can include data backups, disaster recovery plans, and high availability. If is there's a crash, the system can be reverted back to it's last state.
There are still many myth's surrounding cloud computing. A friend recently said she was concerned about not having access to files for her business if the internet goes down. With AWS Direct Connect, access is still available completely independent of the internet service providers.
